Kuala Lumpur City Tour | Travel Guide Part 1

Kuala Lumpur is one of nearby countries I've been eyeing to visit.  I never thought I'd step my feet on this place in an instant.

Upon arrival from the LCCT airport, Malaysian tourist officers welcomed us and we were greeted by our licensed tour guide Marie Gerardine Teo.  We were asked to board the bus waiting for us parked in the airport so we could start the tour.

Chuckie, Ferds and Rey. Photo ops before boarding the bus.

The fact that it was only one day before I get notified of this zesty trip to Kuala Lumpur, I was not able to look up anything on the internet on what Kuala Lumpur has to offer.  I only knew the famous Batu Cave and Petronas Tower, that's it.  This became a spontaneous trip for me, that all I do is listen to Marie talking about Malaysia's culture, history and economy.

Transportation From LCCT Airport

How to Get to Kuala Lumpur City From LCCT Airport?  There are two ways to get to the city from LCCT Airport if no one is going to fetch you.

1.  Ride an airport limo or taxi or skyvan.  Of course this is much expensive but if you're in a hurry and don't want any hassle you can take this option.  Budget cab is for 3 pax plus luggage while premium cabs for 4 pax. For families, you can take the van.  Not sure really but cost maybe around 100RM more or less from the airport to the city.  Travel time is around 45 minutes to an hour.

TIP: There's a 30-50% additional midnight surcharge fee for those traveling around 11pm-6am.  For tickets of taxis and buses, there are booths available at the arrival area for purchase.

2.  I think the cheapest way is to take the bus they called Skybus, it's a bus from LCCT to KL Sentral.  KL Sentral is the main station of Kuala Lumpur that can be the start of your journey to Kuala Lumpur.  It connects to other train station which helps you on your trip.

TIP: Check Skybus website for the rate and schedule http://skybus.com.my/.  And also note the schedule of each train line in Malaysia, you can take a cab from KL Sentral if there's no train available in KL Sentral.

Train Line in Malaysia

KTM Intercity - point for rail destinations throught Malaysia and even nearby countries like Singapore and Bangkok
KTM Komuter - connects to suburban towns of Malaysia
Kelana Jaya Line / Putra Line
Ampang Line / Star Line
KLIA Ekspres - connects directly from Kuala Lumpur International Airport
KLIA Transit - a link from KL International Airport to nearby areas like Cyberjaya and Putrajaya
KL Monorail - city train

Hope that helps.  Now, let's start the tour!

First Stop: Istana Negara aka The King's Palace

Istana Negara is the official residence of the head state of Malaysia.  The building structure is amazing and I'm glad they open this for public viewing.  Of course for security reasons, no one is allowed to enter the gate. It's past lunchtime but before going to dine for lunch, it's best to stop by here first as it's along the way.

How to get to Istana Negara / King's Palace:  The closest train station is the Monorail Station Tun Sambanthan.  From there you could take a cab to Istana Negara.

The King's Palace,  I wonder how it looks like inside

thanks az for this lovely shot ^_^

There are so many monkeys here!

Second Stop: Restoran Minmax for Lunch

Hungry to the highest level! Marie brought us to Restoran Minmax.  I ate a lot, delicious foods we had here.   :)

Restoran Minmax / Minmax Restaurant
PNB Darby Park
197 Jalan Binjai,
50450 Kuala Lumpur
Prices ranges from 4RM to 20RM per meal.

Third Stop: Check in at Berjaya Hotel

On our third stop, we checked in at Berjaya Hotel and took a quick rest before heading back on the road to catch a museum that closes at 5pm.  Berjaya Hotel is adjacent to Berjaya Times Square's shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.

How to Get to Berjaya Hotel / Berjaya Times Square:  Berjaya Hotel is indeed in a great location, walking distance to monorail station Imbi and also 10-15 minutes walk to Bukit Bintang, an entertainment district in Kuala Lumpur.

Fourth Stop: KL City Gallery & Merdeka Square

Off we went to Kuala Lumpur's City Gallery, a well-known museum in Kuala Lumpur.  KL City Gallery is located in Merdeka Square.  It is inside an old National Heritage building and the best part of it...it's FREE!

Outside KL City Gallery

Marie explained to us the history of Malaysia, how the sites were build, and everything about the city.

Jamek Mosque (Masjid Jamek) is the first brick mosque in the City built in 1909

The museum has its showroom called 'Discover the City' where model architecture of the whole Kuala Lumpur City is being shown.  We can't believe that they are showing this to the tourists for free.

The Largest Kuala Lumpur City Model.

Malaysia is not only famous for their beautiful heritage buildings, but also for the talented people making this architectural model. Crafts made by hand, amazing. Most of them is doing this for like 10 years and above.

I love how Malaysia protect their heritage.  If given a chance to go back here, I'll definitely check this out at night.  I'm sure it's glowing and perfect for night shot as well. :)

Fifth Stop: Jalan Alor Foodtrip!

If Singapore is known for hawker stalls, Malaysia is well known for a dining experience in Jalan Alor.  They say you've never been to Kuala Lumpur if you've never tried eating here.

How to Get to Jalan Alor:  The nearest train station here is Bukid Bintang.

Marie brought us to Restoran Sun Chui Yen.  If you'd ask Team Kuala, they will never forget the great food served to us.  Everything is tasty but the best for me is the squid with salted eggs.  I can still remember the taste while I'm writing this post hahaha.  Not only we had a great dining experience but the bonding of the group with Marie is fun!

We finished our dinner around 9-10pm then we walked along the streets to hunt for souvenirs after.  Wonderful first day!

Thank you
