May Day Bank Holiday: Seaside Shenanigans

No sooner does Easter disappear from view, do we see another half term on the horizon and, as always, keeping the kids entertained for the duration will ensure that stress won’t rear its ugly head. For most schools across the country, half term this year falls at the end of the month, between the 27th and the 31st May and, with warm summer weather expected, it’d be a perfect time to head for the seaside.

Whether you decide to stay on the coast over the Bank Holiday weekend or you choose to escape with the kids for the whole week, there are plenty of resorts across the UK that would make a perfect stay. Travelodge offers budget accommodation in Brighton, Blackpool and beyond, meaning wherever you choose to go, you don’t need to worry about spending over the odds on hotels.

Pack your suitcase and your bucket and spade and keep your fingers crossed for good weather. Take your pick from some of the great budget hotels by the sea in one of our quintessentially British seaside resorts.

Brighton

One of the most charming seaside resorts in the UK, it can be found on the south coast of England and offers a high chance of sunshine due to its locality. Bursting with traditional elements, from Punch and Judy shows to donkey rides, there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied here. Whether it’s chilling on the beach or heading for the Pier to spend your pennies in the amusement arcades, there’s something for everyone.

Blackpool

The Lancashire equivalent of Brighton, Blackpool is positively oozing with family-friendly attractions. From the macabre delights of the Blackpool Dungeons to the adrenaline-packed rides at the Pleasure Beach, people of all ages will love a trip to this vibrant seaside. If the skies open, don’t be glum – there’s plenty to see and do both indoors and out.

Minehead

Head for the south west coast and enjoy a stay in north of Devon to guarantee an unforgettable trip. Full of class and elegance, Minehead is a traditional seaside retreat in the heart of a beautiful area of the country. From Exmoor national park to Dunster Castle, you can fill your days with activities that will keep even the most fidgety of kids entertained.

Llandudno

Head across the border to Wales for a classic seaside holiday. As the largest resort in Wales, you can be sure to find plenty of things to fill your itinerary. Take a ride on Britain’s only cable hauled tramway or take a trip to Conwy Castle for a little heritage infusion.

Southport

If you want a seaside retreat without the hustle and bustle of Blackpool, you can enjoy a quieter sojourn in Southport, just a short distance away. While it is a much more subdued break, you can still enjoy a great few days in the town, including superb shopping opportunities, a waterpark, miniature railway and a free fairground.

Book your family trip today before the accommodation fills up and enjoy a budget break by the sea this May half term. Quality time with your family is few and far between – make the most of it when you can.

Wonderful resort with some truly exceptional staff and rooms, this was the second of our 3 resorts in the Maldives, we were greeted at Male Airport where the John staff were kind enough to help with some damaged baggage and then take us onto the lounge where we received complimentary massages!
