We stayed at Sampaguita Suites Hotel for Php800/night for two.
If you're family wants a nature trip, you may try Jack's Ridge or Eden Nature Park. Only that Jack's Ridge have rooms for 2, while Eden Nature Park got family cottages with Kitchen but somehow far from downtown.
If you're going to explore the city, best location of your hotel would be near or in downtown Davao City. But most hotels here are of business or traveller's type without kitchen facilities like Sampaguita Suites, Davao Imperial, Humberto's Hotel and a lot more good for 2-4, that is if you wouldn't mind getting two rooms.
Try Linmarr http://linmarrdavao.com/Rooms.aspx it's near downtown and they have double room apartelle for 4 (add Php336 per additional pax) good for family.
Another one is Lispher Inn http://www.lispher.ph/rooms.htm their family room is good for 4pax too Php350/additional pax
You may also check Casa Ruby http://casarubydavao.com/amenities.html feels like home accomodation inside a village.

been to Davao City for the first time, i checked in at MY HOTEL. it was a pleasant stay, everyone at the hotel i stayed at was really helpful. Since it was my first time, i have no itinerary what so ever, they provided me with tips and all around the hotel. MY Hotel was a good choice because of its cheap accommodations but highly recomendable for its clean rooms. it was worth the stay. i hope i could go back there this year and meet up with the friends i made. thank you Davao!
